Eleanor (Ellie) Lefiti, of Pacific Islander descent, experienced a challenging upbringing in the Sunnyvale projects of San Francisco, enduring various forms of abuse within her household. With an alcoholic father and a mother facing significant mental health issues, Ellie found herself shouldering the responsibility of parenting her younger siblings from a very young age.

At 23 years old, she faced a critical juncture in her life, leading to her incarceration on a 15-to-life term, with an additional four years for the use of a gun. Ellie wound up serving an extensive 27-year sentence, finally earning her freedom on May 4, 2020, upon being deemed suitable for release.

Driven by her own transformative journey, Ellie channeled her experiences into positive action. She now spearheads a non-profit organization supporting women returning to society after incarceration. Her organization empowers these women to make informed choices that facilitate their journey to freedom, encouraging them to become the best versions of themselves as women, mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, nieces, and aunties.

Ellie’s remarkable resilience and commitment to providing guidance and support reflect her determination to help others navigate the challenges of re-entry into society after incarceration. Her personal story is an inspiration, demonstrating the power of resilience and the ability to turn adversity into a force for positive change.
